The Smith Bagley Advocacy Grant Award

Each year, the Sapelo Foundation awards a special grant in honor of its past President and Trustee, Smith W. Bagley and his vision for a more just and equitable society.

During his more than 30 years as a Trustee of the Foundation, Mr. Bagley diligently worked to advance the civil and human rights of Georgia’s disenfranchised population. Each year he looked forward to visiting small nonprofit organizations in rural Georgia communities where they strive to bring social justice and progressive change. He understands the value of meeting people where they live and work and this greatly enriched his grantmaking decisions and those of the Board of Trustees while serving the Foundation.

Each year a committee of the Board of Trustees selects a nonprofit recipient.
