Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship Program
Online applications for the 2009-2010 school year will be accepted October 1, 2008 - March 1, 2009.

Introduction

This special program awards scholarships, based on financial need and academic standing, to accredited colleges and universities on behalf of residents of McIntosh County Academy Graduates. Those participating in the program are known as Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholars.


History of the Program

The Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship Program was created by the Sapelo Foundation in honor of Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. and Dr. Annemarie Reynolds as an expression of their commitment to the people of McIntosh County, Georgia. The purpose of the program is to provide grants to accredited colleges, universities or technical colleges attended by qualified high school graduates from McIntosh County Academy Graduates. Students who participate in the program are known as Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholars.


Administration of the Program

The Board of Trustees of the Sapelo Foundation is responsible for the administration and funding of the Richard J. Reynolds, Jr. Scholarship Program and recommends scholars based on information provided by its Scholarship Committee. Financial need, academic standing, and other factors considered pertinent will determine the recommendations of the Board of Trustees.


Duration of Scholarship

Scholarships will be awarded to the college, university or technical institute on behalf of the student on a one year basis with provision for extension for the second, third, and fourth years, provided the scholar maintains an academic record that is satisfactory to the college, university or technical college and the Scholarship Committee and completes the course of study in the period normally allotted. An application must be filed with the Sapelo Foundation for each year of study. Applicants for postgraduate study will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Applicants must be Graduates of McIntosh County Academy and meet the requirements set forth below.



Requirements

Eligibility and Renewal is Determined by:
  • Acceptance to, or enrollment in an accredited college, university or technical institute
  • Full-time enrollment
  • Satisfactory high school academic record or average (2.0 GPA) or better standing in college, university or technical college (copies of grades are required when student receives grades)
  • Financial need established by review of information submitted by student and the college, university or technical college office of Financial Aid
  • Must be a graduate of McIntosh County Academy
  • No student may receive a scholarship more than five (5) academic years after he/she graduates from McIntosh County Academy


New Applicants and MCA Graduating Seniors Must:
  • Complete and submit the Online Application Form, PART A
  • Print PART B of the Application Form and provide it to the college Office of Financial Aid
  • Download PART C - Scholarship Agreement; read, sign and return to the Sapelo Foundation
  • Mail or fax to the Sapelo Foundation a copy of the college acceptance letter

Current Scholarship Recipients Re-Applying Must:
  • Complete and submit the Online Application Form, PART A
  • Print PART B of the Application Form and provide it to the college Office of Financial Aid
  • Download PART C - Scholarship Agreement; read, sign and return to the Sapelo Foundation
  • Notify The Sapelo Foundation, in writing, if you change schools for any reason and include a copy of the college acceptance letter
  • Grades from your previous school year must be sent to the Sapelo Foundation by June 1 of each year. These may be sent by fax, email, or US Postal Service.
    Failure to do so results in an immediate rejection of your application.
